About this audiobook

**The Caucasian Prisoner of Leo Tolstoy** is one of the most famous and perfect stories of the writer, created by him specifically for Azbuki. Written in a laconic, transparent and incredibly living language, this story has become the reference of adventure and humanistic prose. On the example of the fate of two Russian officers Tolstoy shows a master class of resilience, strength of spirit and genuine courage in the face of a deadly danger. The story develops on the background of the Caucasian War. Officer Zhilin goes on a vacation to his homeland, but on the way along with his co-workers Costillin falls into a castle to the Tatar (Gurts). Both find themselves imprisoned in a remote mountain hall, where they are caught in the hills and demand for them a huge ransom. However, the heroes behave completely differently. The weak and loud Costyline humiliates with his participation, sleeps and unacts for weeks, waiting down until the family comes the money. The acting and solid Zhilline refuses to give up: he studies the surroundings, gains the respect of the local residents with his skill (he makes the clock, he treats, makes a doll for the little Tatar girl Dina) and hardly prepares the escape. When the first attempt fails because of Costillin's mindlessness, Zhillin has to demonstrate a limited will to life, which is suddenly helped by sincere childhood friendship. The author clearly demonstrates that from any, even the most hopeless catch of a man, not blind luck, but humility, perseverance, loyalty to himself and the ability to find a common language with people of another culture. This is a dynamic, exciting and very bright work that is read on one breath. **About what the book is in three words:** Will, Prison, Friendship. **Who to read:** To everyone who appreciates the vibrant and dynamic historical stories, parents for joint reading with children, as well as those who are looking for an inspiring classic story about the strength of human character and the celebration of life.
