Mistress Wilding

England, 1685: preparations for the Duke of Monmouth's rebellion make political allegiance a dangerous matter. Anthony Wilding is involved in that struggle, but his relationship with Ruth Westmacott is equally important to him. Misunderstandings, hostile rumours and the interference of interested rivals turn courtship into distrust. Private conflict becomes inseparable from events that may end in imprisonment or death. Rafael Sabatini joins historical intrigue to the difficult making of a relationship. Wilding must do more than act courageously: he must reconsider how he pursues his wishes and prove his feelings through conduct. Political loyalty, pride and responsibility towards another person demand choices that determination alone cannot resolve.
