Rob Roy

Frank Osbaldistone would rather write poetry than enter his father’s business. Sent to stay with relatives in northern England, he encounters the independent Diana Vernon and the calculating cousin Rashleigh. When vital financial papers disappear, a family quarrel becomes a journey into Scotland, where Frank must seek help beyond the respectable commercial world he knows. On the eve of the Jacobite rising of 1715, his path crosses that of Rob Roy MacGregor, an outlaw whose influence reaches far beyond his legal standing. Walter Scott tells the story through Frank’s memories, joining romance and pursuit to the tensions between merchants, clans and rival political loyalties. The search for stolen property becomes an education in courage, trust and the limits of inherited expectations.
