The Talisman

During the Third Crusade, the Christian camp is weakened by illness and rivalry among its leaders. Richard the Lionheart’s authority is challenged as a poor Scottish knight, Sir Kenneth, undertakes a mission beyond the camp. An encounter with a Saracen warrior opens an unexpected path of respect between men divided by war and religion. Kenneth’s devotion to Edith Plantagenet and his duty to guard England’s banner draw him into a web of courtly schemes. A physician, a healing talisman and concealed identities complicate the struggle for honour. Walter Scott’s historical romance sets military ambition beside generosity towards an enemy, finding acts of loyalty and mercy on both sides of the conflict in the Holy Land.
