The Travels of Baron Munchausen

For Baron Munchausen, a journey is never limited by distance, danger or the rules of nature. The traveller turns each obstacle into an opportunity for another astonishing account, presenting the most unlikely events with the confidence of an experienced eyewitness. His listeners are invited into a world where resourcefulness can answer any difficulty. These comic travels play with the grand claims of explorers, soldiers and adventurers. The pleasure lies less in believing the narrator than in following the ingenuity of his inventions and the calm logic with which he defends them. Linked to Rudolf Erich Raspe, the Munchausen stories combine fantastic adventure with satire, exposing the vanity of the boastful storyteller while allowing imagination to carry him beyond every reasonable boundary.
