Encounters in the Taiga

A collection of Vladimir Arsenyev’s stories about the forests, animals and people of the Russian Far East. Tracks, unexpected encounters and conversations with local inhabitants reveal how much a traveller can learn by looking closely. Drawing on experience in the field, Arsenyev explores resourcefulness, caution and respect for nature. These short episodes capture the tension of travelling through wild country as well as the satisfaction of discovery and the value of an experienced companion.
