About this audiobook

"Charlie" Charlotte Bronte is the second major novel of the famous English writer, the creator of "Jane Air".This is a large, mature and surprisingly atmospheric work in which a thin Victorian melodrama develops on the background of the stormy historical shocks, the industrial coup and the hard struggle of man for his right to happiness. The action of the novel carries the reader to the Yorkshire of the Napoleonic wars. In the center of the story - the fate of two completely different, but equally strong girls. The short and unreliable Carolyn Helstown is secretly and irresponsibly in love with her cousin, the ambitious manufacturer Robert Moore, who because of financial difficulties thinks only about saving her business. Everything changes when Sherley Kildar appears in the district – a rich, independent and determined heir who owns its property. Unlike society’s expectations, girls don’t become competitors, but find strong friendship. But when the rebellion of the workers who break the machines comes to the region, and her mysterious and poor teacher Louis Moore comes to Sherley, the lives of all the heroes are found in a nod of debt, pride, passion and social class prejudice. Bronte managed to go beyond the usual female novel: she created a powerful epic plate, where social realism and industrial rebellions are blended with deep psychology, and the image of Sherley became one of the first manifests of female independence in literature. Who to read: Lovers of classical English novels, strong and independent female characters, as well as those who appreciate juicy historical decorations and deep psychological prose.
